Vishal Bhardwaj and Shaunak Sen to Guide Indian Co-Production Initiative

A significant film co-production fund, established by Humans of Cinema and Safarnaama Pictures, has been introduced to bolster emerging independent filmmakers in India. Valued at approximately $42,000 (INR 40 lakh), this initiative brings on board acclaimed director Vishal Bhardwaj and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Shaunak Sen as mentors. Sen will further contribute as an executive producer for the project ultimately chosen for financial backing, ensuring both guidance and practical support for the next generation of talent.

The selection committee for this fund boasts a diverse and experienced panel, including actor Imran Khan, director Arati Kadav (known for 'Cargo' and 'Mrs'), 'All That Breathes' producer Aman Mann, and festival director Aseem Chhabra. Harshit Bansal, founder of Humans of Cinema, revealed that the inspiration for this venture stemmed from a collaboration with Nazim Momin, an engineer and producer based in the U.S. who helms Safarnaama Pictures. Their joint ambition is to support a film that not only achieves international recognition but also resonates deeply with local audiences. Shaunak Sen's production company, Kiterabbit Films, is also a financial contributor to this fund.

This initiative represents a crucial step in fostering innovative storytelling within Indian cinema, providing both financial resources and invaluable mentorship. The esteemed panel of judges, along with the commitment from established filmmakers, underscores a collective belief in nurturing fresh perspectives. By empowering new voices, the fund aims to elevate Indian filmmaking on the global stage, ensuring that diverse narratives find their audience and contribute to the rich tapestry of world cinema.
